I’ll be doing my creative nonfiction workshop LAY IT BARE at the Sitka Center again this year – as many previous attendees requested (I listened!), I’ve added a third day to the format so writers can spend more time revising and getting feedback.
Here’s the info and the website to sign up:
LAY IT BARE Workshop Overview:
Successful memoirs, whether book or essay, often combine self-imagination, a bare-naked heart and a fearless dose of honesty. This workshop will be structured around finding our way into this place. We will read excerpts, write, share work and discuss different methods of non-fiction storytelling. The first two days will be spent generating new work—we will investigate ways to unearth material from our lives and learn constructive editing techniques. The third day will focus on revising one new piece and sharing it with the group. You will leave with several fragments, starts, and one longer piece that has received group feedback.
I’ll be teaching again this summer at one of my favorite places on earth, The Sitka Center for Art & Ecology. I’d love for you to join me if you’re working on a memoir project or curious about how to start one for this two-day low-key writing workshop.

Hope to see you there.
